I feel proud to be a Peace Champion. Check this out and do tell me in my ask box how’s it?
In this world Peace had never perished from this world nor it will. It will stay alive till this world exists. Its just we humans who are ignoring peace otherwise if we give it a chance we will come to know that Peace dwells within us – all of us.
Today I just planned up to share a little bit of my story of peace. My story of peace. Well its just how my perception changed about India, in last few years.
I used facebook as randomly as possible, in late 2009. It was winters when I had a fanpage named Sheesha. Lol. Eventually one day in my inbox I saw a message strolling in my inbox which was sent by “Arveen Singh” . It just asked me to promote her page on my fanpage, but I went to view her profile and as soon as I saw she was from india, I sent her the friend request and she accepted. It was quite cool for me to have the first Indian fried in my life. We chated much on facebook, very soon we learnt a lot about eachother, our families, our cultures and all. We had so much in common. We became best friends and soon started calling eacother and all. We used to discus polital matters on chat and pondered on a solution for peace.

One day I came across a facebook fanpage “Friends without Borders” The name was quite cool, I saw the despripition which said
“By using the Facebook platform Friends Without Borders has created a space for youth from different sides of the four conflicts get to know each other without the constraints of distance or interceptive media. “
I joined in. Later they launched a campaign in which they were selecting Peace Champions from 8 countries around the world:
The Friends Without Borders campaign is peace-building with eight world youth Peace Champions from regions challenged by conflict - Israel and Palestine, India and Pakistan, Greece and Turkey, Kosovo and Serbia. The project brings together the immediate power of information and communications technologies and video storytelling to increase mutual respect, trust and understanding among youth 14 to 25 years from all eight countries by promoting social and cultural self-expression. The Peace Champions will be selected as a Facebook friendship pair from across the regions involved in dispute. The initiative is supported by UNESCO, Stanford University and Facebook, Inc.
The part I loved the most was that
“The Peace Champion friendship pairs from each region will act as ambassadors for the campaign by sharing their own story of friendship on video. They will inspire others to engage in friendship and peace-building on Facebook in ways that will help progress positive inter-country, intra-regional and inter-personal relations.
The Champions will by coached by an Emmy Award-winning video production team in New York City to create a video diary of their life and friendship on Facebook. They will become documentary film-makers for a week, capturing their personal inspirations, hopes, dreams and everyday experiences to be produced as a video diary. The Peace Champion friendship stories will also be the story of potential coiednflict transformation for the regions. “
I applied for this project with the my story of friendship with arveen, after asking her. Within a week we were notified that we had been selected as world peace champions from our region. I was like wow. That’s so cool. We were so happy with this, to get our story across the world to inspire the world. We in a month got our camera’s to get on with recording we had a plenty of time to do this. And we did it quite quickly. Durring recording I sent them a news Flash
“I’m loving the documentary making even though using video cameras on the street is banned here, and there is generator noise and other restrictions. I am doing this to celebrate my friendship with Arveen (Peace Champ, INDIA) and to live with peace. I am loving this experience as its a tough challenge to shoot a documentary in Pakistan :D “
I was late though but I loved the whole project and it was like what friendship is actually about.
Atlast when my video’s reached US. I was so happy and I talked to them about the project saying
“Arveen and I had always been friends but this platform has given us a great chance to question ourselves and our friendship. Its had a great impact. We’re 1000 miles away but are now much closer together. The project challenged us to feel the essence of our friendship.”
Finally now a bit of our hardwork is out. They have launched out the teaser. Check this out Please and do let me know how did it go?
